I wanted to share some insights on endurance I’ve learned which can be game-changing. 

As we navigate challenging times, having the stamina to persevere is so important. 

Endurance comes in 4 main types:

  • Muscular endurance – training muscles to perform repeated movements efficiently over extended periods. Simple exercises like squats and pushups build this.
  • Single-set training – high-volume workouts with minimal rest periods develop the ability to push through when fatigue sets in.
  • HIIT cardio – short, intense intervals paired with recovery periods shock the body over time into needing less oxygen to work harder.
  • Long, steady cardio – low-to-moderate intensity workouts for prolonged durations activate the body’s slow-twitch muscle fibers and breathing mechanisms differently.

I’m so passionate about unlocking our full potential through endurance training.

A few key concepts that can help in this journey include:

Efficiency of Effort: Form is everything. Proper breathing, alignment and movement recycling minimize wasted energy. This allows higher quality work for longer.

Hydration: Drinking enough water, especially before and during exercise, improves cardiovascular function and thermoregulation. Even being 1-2% dehydrated impairs performance.

Oxygenating Muscles: Proper breathing techniques maximize oxygen delivery to working muscles. Over time, this literally strengthens your heart muscle and vascular system for increased work capacity.

Motivation for Long Bouts: Maintaining focus and drive for extended periods requires mental tricks like varying intensity, setting mini-goals and visualizing your “extra gear”.
